School was finally over. Hallelujah! He wasn't a religious person or anything, but he could not help but thank every deity he could name off the top of his head when the final bell rang. It was like a chorus of angels within his ears, though he might just be over thinking things. after all, it was just a shrill chime than probably deafened the nearest kids and ground into the nerves of teachers who pause in mid sentence. This happened mere minutes ago with the bell cutting off his literature teacher only half way through her lecture. Hey, it was her fault for spending too much time going over why some author put something into one page of some book. Yeah, he wasn't really paying attention in class.
The blond had waited behind a little after the bell, allowing all the seniors to flood out of the class and down the hall. He had learned better than to dash out first thing after getting trampled, shoved into lockers, and tossed around like a rag dolls. It took a couple of days for the throbbing bruises to dull and numb. Since then he lingered after class until almost everyone was gone.
Speaking of which, the halls were rather barren today. Jeez, you would think there was a football game or something they had to go to. He wouldn't know. The only event waiting for him after school was to go home and feed his creepy crawlers... And, er, slither...ers. Lynton yawned, covering his mouth with one pale hand while the other adjusted the messenger bag's strap on his shoulder. He only had his binders for each class and a calculator in there today. No textbooks! Who needed them when he had a laptop waiting for him at home with the digital copies of every textbook known to man? Well, at least, known to Americans. Pff.
Blue eyes glanced around the empty hall as he finally made it down to the main floor of the school building. Huh, not even a janitor in sight. This was strange. He shouldn't think too much of it. Now... Where was the exit again? Great, two years and he still couldn't find the school entrance on his own. There are three, Lynn, it shouldn't be that hard.

so practically fighting his way through the crowd, xepher couldn't help but to feel as though he were a salmon fighting his way upstream. the thought made him frown deeply, considering that these kids were more concerned about running away from school than they were about almost trampling him under their feet on accident. or on purpose. sometimes xepher didn't really know if they meant to crush people to death or not. some of the evil ones probably thought about it.
but as xepher made his way over to his locker, he felt his phone vibrate in his pocket, and upon reading the text, discovered that his older brother was running late and that he'd come to get him in an hour. with a sigh, xepher replied with a brief 'okay' before shoving the device back into his pocket. school got out at the same time every day, how felix was ever late because he forgot the time or something, xepher would never know. it was a wonder he ever remembered to go to work every day too, or else they'd be screwed under all the bills.
as he passed onto the main floor of the building, he turned the corner to head to his locker and found a familiar-looking boy wandering alone in the halls. was he in xepher's math class? he was pretty sure he was, but he couldn't remember the kid's name right now to save his life. but as xepher neared, he gave the other boy a light frown. "you okay? you looking for a teacher's office or something?" |

Just great. There was no one around and he forgot where everything in the school was. He really should try and get a map from the office the next chance he got, if he can find the office, that is. Oh, who is he kidding? He can't read a map for the life of him. His cheeks puffed out in annoyance as he turned his head back and forth, taking a few steps away from the stairs. He honestly didn't know which way to go.
His gaze focused on one direction of the all, tilting his head to the side as if he were contemplating whether or not to head that way. He had time to kill, and he was sure his father and brother wouldn't be home until late anyways. But he did have some hungry pets to feed. Lynton let out a whine, stuffing his hands in the pockets of his coat. It was probably too warm to wear such heavy clothing, and his father disapproved of the whole wearing girls' clothes thing, but he didn't care. If it fits, wear it.
A voice brought the blond out of his thoughts. He turned his head, blinking curiously as he quickly found the source of the voice. He looked familiar... Where had he seen him... Hm... Oh! He had a few classes with this boy! Jeez, he needed to start learning the names of people. A large grin formed on his face as he twirled around to face the other senior. "Hey there!" His voice chirped, and he couldn't help but rock back and forth on his heels. "I'm mighty fine, sir! Just a li'le lost is all." He gave a giggle, his southern accent making itself known with every word he spoke. He should really try learning a general American accent one of these days...

"lost?" he echoed, tilting his head slightly. "well, there are a few doors leading outside if you go through those doors." he nodded to the large doors just around the corner that were barely visible from where they were standing. but he tried a different angle. "ah, pardon my ignorance, but i can't seem to remember your name." the boy gave a very small and yet nervous laugh. "but i'm pretty sure we have math together. did you quite understand the homework we were given?" because lets face it, xepher hated, and sucked at, doing math. it just wasn't his thing.
perhaps he was just trying to strike up conversation with the boy who always seemed so happy (at least to xepher, he did), but there was a part of him that sort just wanted to ask for help. he desperately needed a study buddy in their stupid class, but he didn't want to sound idiotic by saying he didn't understand the subject. so his cheeks flushed a little in embarrassment as he shifted his gaze away to glace at the section of lockers down the hall -- the place where he would be shuffling off to next if this conversation took an awkward turn. |

His rocking stopped when the other student gave him a quick answer. It was really that close? He strained his neck to try and peek past the corner, only to end up stumbling because he had unintentionally leaned forwards as well. Straightening his posture and scratching the back of his head, he gave a sheepish smile. "Who'd've known! Heh." He would have to remind himself a thousand times within the next week that there was an exit not too far from the stairs.
His eyes fixed back on the dark haired student. He would have taken a step towards the exit had it not been for the next question. His name? Oh! He never introduced himself. The boy held out a pale hand to the other, a grin forming on his face. "The name's Lynton, but you c'n call me Lynn." Math? Oh, yes, that was where he saw his face! The students here seemed to all flow together and make one large blob to him, so remembering at least one face was a rarity.
The blond adjusted the strap on his shoulder, shaking his head. "Nope!" He giggled his grin turning sheepish once more. "I was plannin' on asking Google 'bout everythin'." It was his primary source when it came to homework. He used it for radicals, simplifying functions, and much, much more. How he passed tests with at least a C was beyond him. He really needed a tutor or something for that, but he could always just ask his brother for help. That is, when his brother was home when he was.

ah, so his name was lynton. that pretty much jogged xepher's memory right there, since the kid's name had been on the tip of his tongue since he'd entered the hallway. he was quite sure, however, if lynn remembered his name or not, so he stated it in return anyway, if only to be polite, "alright. i'm xepher." of course, most kids didn't really pay attention to him as the male preferred to sit in the back corner of the room over sitting in the front and talking to other kids. unfortunately, his math teacher forced assigned seats on them a few days ago (to stop the class from talking, apparently, since she thought doing this would help), so xepher had gotten stuck up in the front left section of the room, which was somewhat nearby where lynn sat, he was pretty sure.
"google?" he asked, frowning a bit. of course, he knew what google was, being one of the most popular search engines and all, but xepher was never graced with having his own computer at home. whenever he needed something, he had to try to hack into his brother's laptop by trying to guess the passwords a hundred times before he finally figured it out. felix hated when xepher used his laptop, but what other choice did xeph have? he had to access the internet somehow. it was bad enough that he didn't own a smartphone. but maybe that would be his next project -- save up enough money from work to buy a laptop. "oh..alright." this conversation was going to end if he just left at that, so he frowned and shrugged a bit. "maybe we could..study together? or something..since we have a test in a few days and whatnot." well, there it was, xeph's awkward request at being study buddies. |

Xepher? Hehe, that was a strange name. He had never heard of someone named Xepher before. That makes him special, right? Yes, Xepher is special. His name is pretty, too, and Lynton liked that. His grin grew at this thought. Yes, he liked the name a lot. Oh! He would have to give him a nickname just because he could! Hm... Xepher... Xepher... Xephy? Heh, that sounded weird. He liked it. Without knowing it, he had let out another giggle. Laughing at nothing seemed about right. If questioned, he would just say it was a joke he remembered from a while back. Wait, he didn't know any jokes. Ermp, oh well.
Lynn tilted his head to the side at the mention of studying together. He had never actually studied with anyone other than his brother and trust old Google before. What would a study group do, anyways? Other than study, of course. Do they meet at someone's house? Are there snakes? Oh! Oh! This sounded fun! He could show Xephy his spiders, his snake, and his dog! He was sure they'd all love to see his new friend. After all, they should be glad he's getting human friends... Xepher was a friend, right? To Lynton he already was, despite having just officially met him.
His eyes brightened up at the thought. He opened his mouth to speak, flashing his white teeth. "Oh of course!" His hands clasped together close to his chest, just below his chin. "We c'n head to my place right now, if that's okay." Gosh, his face was starting to hurt from smiling so much in such a short time. He needed to learn to frown at everything, but him being serious just didn't seem to work these days. Lynn unclasped his hands, reaching for the boy's hand, despite whatever his answer might have been. He turned around, already heading for the doors without even looking to see if he had been able to grab Xepher's hand in order to successfully drag him away.

but that was enough on that. lynton eventually agreed with the idea of studying together and xepher just nodded happily, smiling softly. "okay, awesome. i just -- ah!" xepher was cut off mid-sentence when lynton grabbed his hand and started dragging him down the hall towards the doors. wait, wasn't it lynn who was just asking for directions? what if they got lost? oh yeah, right. xepher knew where he was going. but that was besides the point.
"o-oh, well i was gonna grab my textbook before we left.." he finally got out, frowning as the lockers left his field of sight. maybe lynton had the book at home? hopefully, since they needed it for the homework they were supposed do be doing and the test they had to study for. was it best to just let lynn drag him around? xepher blinked and finally stood upright as he regained his footing for the most part. he came up beside lynn, assuming the boy would drop his wrist once he noticed. "is it okay for me to just come over? don't you have to ask someone?" well, he probably sounded stupid, but whatever. at his place, felix scolded him for bringing people over randomly without asking. i've never been invited over to someone else's house.. i wonder how it compares to mine. xepher would have to text his brother the next time they stopped walking or something. he should probably let him know that he didn't need him to come pick him up from school. |

He really should have given the other student a longer time to respond to his question before dragging him off and down the hall. Oh well~! He would just have to deal with it. Lynton wasn't very good at multitasking, so having a study group on his mind sort of made him forget about the usual common sense about communicating with others. And a textbook? Pfffff. They didn't need a textbook! Digital copies were all the rage. Hah, and this was coming from the country boy. Moving to New York has affected him more than he realized.
He slowed his pace as the doors he had been told about earlier came into view. Huh. They were really that close. He really should start paying attention to his surroundings more often. He glanced up and over at Xepher, flashing him a smile. He didn't even remember that he had his wrist, so he simply continued to hold it. His free hand raised off of his messenger bag, waving dismissively around in the air. "Naw, pops won't care 'bout bringin' a friend home." His father never really cared, and it wasn't like the man was home much anyways. He only ever saw his brother when he came home from work, and he didn't seem to mind much. Then again, he had only ever brought some stray cats, puppies, and squirrels into the house before. Eheh...
Regardless, he was quite certain he would be fine. "Oh! You c'n even stay over fer dinner!" Today should be one of the days his father actually came home and they had a large country meal. Ah, fried chicken, mashed potatoes, beans... He was getting hungry just by thinking of it. "And I'm sure Dolly'll love ya." He was talking with his free hand now, turning around to press his back up against the push side of the door for it to open. Jeez, these doors were heavy. "I c'n even show ya Pinkie 'n the boys." He wasn't thinking about studying anymore. Instead his mind was focused on the fact that he was actually having someone over.

but obviously that was not the case, because lynton kept walking toward the outside doors. now that xepher had come up and was walking besides him, and he blinked a little in surprise when he realized that lynn hadn't let go of his hand. did he just forget? xepher didn't want to appear rude, so he just let it happen, leaving his wrist to dangle there from within lynton's grip. the male heard the other boy's words and nodded a little. "oh okay.. i wish i had that kind of freedom," he answered, a little surprised. maybe if xepher's dad hadn't died, then life would have still been good with living with him and felix and his mom. because his brother had gotten cold ever since they moved away from their mother to come here. if xepher still lived with his parents, he'd probably have more freedom within the house and bringing home friends. friends..
lynton's mention of staying over for dinner caught him off-guard. "stay for dinner?" he repeated on impulse. did that mean he was supposed to be meeting lynton's family? how would that go? xepher, shy, quiet person that he was, nearly had a heart attack thinking about it. lynton threw a couple of names around, which made xepher furrow his brow a bit in confusion. did lynton have that many family members? "um...who are all those people?" he asked, glancing down at the other boy. |

The door slowly opened as he pushed, giving him a momentary pause to listen to Xepher. It was sad that others didn't have the freedom he had, but it took the guardians being away most of the time to had such free reign. Well, he didn't have that much freedom, just for the few hours he had the house to himself. Most of that was spent at school or his new part time job. Speaking of which, he would have to check and see when he needed to come in to work. Eh, he'll do that later. Right now he had a new friend to drag home!
"Yup!" His voice chirped in response to Xepher's echoing of his own words. "Dad'll never turn down an empty stomach." It was a habit of country folk like his own to always invite people to stay for dinner. There was normally more food than the three of them could handle, four if you count the scraps given to the dog. The door was finally pushed all the way open, and Lynton pulled the other student out with him. They would need to take the bus in order to get back to his place, but that gave them more time to talk.
The blond giggled, shaking his head as he headed down towards the bus stop. "They aren't people, they're my pets!" He hummed to himself, flashing another smile at Xepher. "Don't worry, you'll love 'em."
