The Bronx is the northernmost of the five boroughs of New York City. It is located north of Manhattan and Queens, with a population over 1.3 million. The Bronx River divides it into two parts - the hillier west part, and the flatter East Bronx. The highest elevation reaches about 280 feet, located in the northwest corner, near Van Cortlandt Park. Irregular shoreline extends for 75 square miles under the Bronx's territory. 7,000 acres of land was given over to park land, approximately one-quarter of its entire land area. This being so, there are multiple areas of attraction, ranging from many different kinds of parks, to cemeteries, to exotic zoos.
