[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellspacing,0,true] | { | The person staring back at him didn't look like the person he had known for nearly twenty-five years. It seemed like a more worn, damaged version had taken the place of the regularly well-groomed male in mirror today, peering back at him with dark half-moons under his thick lenses. It was often hard for Jered to remember to check his appearance in the mirror every morning -- some days, he remembered but just didn't want to see himself. It didn't suggest that he thought his physique was unattractive, no. It was simply a hard thing to do, staring yourself in the eye when you know nothing good is going for you.
I'm a young lover's rage, gonna need a spark to igni...
The lyrics thumped from the small boombox in the corner of Jered's room, singing a catchy tune by Fall Out Boy. He wasn't a huge fan of the boy band, but he definitely enjoyed a good selection of their songs. Despite this, the albino found it hard to enjoy even the upbeat song reverberating in his ear drums. Running his thin fingers through his pale hair, Jered turned away from his appearance staring him down, deciding that it was enough torture for one day. It was time for a smoke.
The only downside of smoking -- other than the cancer and infections and whatnot -- was having to leave his apartment. His room mates were just too picky when it came to him smoking. Toss aside the fact that he smoked probably a pack a day when stressed, and Jered just couldn't comprehend why they wouldn't tolerate it for him. It was just a little stick of smoke that eased his nerves, but they were all cry babies. Holding the cigarette between his lips as he fished in his right pocket for his red lighter, Jered jerked the apartment door open with his left hand.

Life was... different now. It was harder in some senses but easier in others. He still couldn't believe that he and Tiago had run away about a month ago. And now here they were living in an apartment, had jobs, and just.... on their own! And he was only sixteen. It was frightening being an adult now, having to try to take care of himself and worry about things he never had to worry about before. To juggle more things than he ever had before.
He was heading up the stairs to the apartment, having just got off of work. Tiago had been scheduled for a later shift than himself so the other Brazilian had told him to just go home and get some sleep. The poor kid needed it. He was used to being groped and touched by Tiago. But other people? It was new and made him a little on edge. He had to learn though to be agreeable with it, to just smile and keep being adorable. He got more tips that way. And it wasn't that bad he supposed. At least he wasn't in the back, working in the 'playground'. He just served food and drinks in costumes.
With a heavy sigh he scrubbed at the rings beneath a brown eye with a tiny fist. He had changed out of his cosplay outfit at work, now merely wearing a torn pair of jeans and a plain tee. He'd forgotten to grab a hoodie from the closet that day so he lacked his usual jacket to devour his body. Brunette hair was messy as always, a clip in the bangs to keep them out of his face. A feminine backpack was slung over a shoulder with his "work uniform" inside.
As the teen reached for the door to the apartment he found it already opening, jumping in fright. He grew rigid, wide eyes looking up to see his albino roommate before him. Slowly he relaxed, giving a meek smile. "Hey Jere," he said softly, trying not to yawn. Shuffling back a few steps to let the other man out of the doorway he hitched the backpack strap higher on his shoulder. "Going somewhere?"

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellspacing,0,true] | { | The shadow that appeared on the other side of the doorway was much smaller than Jered's, however surprising. He blinked a few times, lightly-shaded eyelashes shielding his maroon eyes before he realized that it was Chavez standing at the door. What had he been doing? Jered cocked his head slightly before stepping through the opening his room mate made for him. "No," He said, still fishing for his lighter. "Just coming out for a smoke." Biting the edge of his cigarette lightly to make it tilt toward the ceiling, Jered watched Chavez carefully. "You just coming home from work? Where's Tiago? Usually you're up each others' asses around this time of day." Jered scoffed, stepping forward and relaxing his jaw to return his cigarette to its original position.
It was a sad fact that his previous statement had not been for show. The two Brazilian boys were basically in each others' asses every day after work, making out and stripping each other right in front the couch that Jered would sit at. Even after almost a month of this, there was no way that the albino could quite get used to it -- after all, he wasn't the reason the two kids were here. He merely tolerated it. And tolerate it he did -- the sex toys strewn across the apartment at awkward times of day. It was embarrassing to bring people over, especially if Jered -- heaven forbid -- wanted to get lucky. The two boys didn't seem to care that they dried their laundry plainly in the open.

At Jered's question Chacha looked away, reaching a hand up to hold the elbow of his opposite arm. He didn't like hearing that scoff, but he knew what it was about. He and Gogo had been... a little crazy since moving in. But it was their first time experiencing freedom and the ability to explore their sexuality without being beaten an inch from their tiny litte lives. So they took that opportunity and ran with it. Not to mention they were teenagers, could you expect much more from them. Nonetheless Chacha felt a bit of guilt, standing here without Tiago to defend them and Jere just scoffing at him.
"I'm alone," he murmured softly. The one thing that the small male hated. It wasn't a complicated thing to figure out about him, from day one their new roommates could probably figure that out. He was glued to Tiago's side every second and if Tiago wasn't there he was running to one of the older two males, to at least be kept company in some sense. It almost seemed as if he was scared to be by himself. "He's working the later shift and told me to just come home," He added with a small sigh.
Leaning into the apartment he sat his bag down in the doorway before turning back to Jered. He shifted uncomfortably a moment. "Can I join you?" There it was, his need for company. He just wanted to sit there with the other. They didn't even have to talk. He just-... needed someone there. "...P-please?"

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellspacing,0,true] | { | Turning his face away from the small teenager as he leaned into the apartment to drop his bag, the edge of his underwear just peeking out, Jered finally found the edge of his lighter. He could feel the smooth metal of the child's proof slider, and it slowly began to relieve his tense feelings. He could already feel himself beginning to relax at the thought of going for a smoke. Turning back to Chavez to see a slight pout on the Brazilian's tanned face, Jered twisted the corner of his mouth down. "What?" He uttered, pulling his unlit cigarette from his lips by his pointer and middle finger.
As soon as Jered heard the words from the skittish teenager, he could feel himself become a bit irritated. Not a lot, but enough. He didn't mind Chavez all that much, but his smoke breaks were the only time he really had to himself, and even then, there were other smokers perched on the edge of the street where he chose to smoke. It was strange that Chavez asked, regardless of the fact that Tiago wasn't around. The teenager had never seemed to be fond of the smell of smoke whenever Jered lit himself up.

He could see that turn of the other's mouth downward, his eyes drifted downward. Maybe he shouldn't have asked. Probably just went into the apartment and went to bed. Get some rest like he needed. But the idea of laying in bed alone was so depressing. And the young boy's mood was too easily dragged down by such thoughts. He bit his lip and shifted a little nervously, fingers twisting the end of his shirt.
When no real response came from the other male he gave a small sigh, shoulders sagging. "Nevermind," he murmured softly. "I'll leave you alone." Did Jered not like him that much? That he couldn't even let the kid tag along while he smoked? It wasn't like he was going to strut around wearing nothing or something embarrassing like that. Chavez was pretty quiet and well behaved when he was on his own. Scrubbing at his dark-toned face he headed toward the door, supposing he'd just take that nap.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellspacing,0,true] | { | This wasn't supposed to take seven years. It was supposed to be quick -- Jered was going to step out for a smoke and enjoy it, but of course, something had to come up. Replacing the cigarette between his lips and shifting it to the corner of his mouth, Jered shrugged. "Don't be a depressive brat. Come if you'd like." The albino male didn't mind all that much, as long as the Brazilian boy was quiet and kept his distance. The hope was probably wasted though, as Chavez had a tendency to cling to Jered's clothing whenever Tiago wasn't around. He couldn't help but imagine the teenager as a small child that couldn't get enough attention from its mother. The thought made the opposite corner of his mouth quirk up, his eyes shifting toward his subject of thought.
"Well? Am I going to have to wait all day for you, pip-squeak?" Jered grabbed the collar of Chavez's collar and gave a firm yank before releasing the kid, allowing him to follow at his own pace. Twirling the red lighter between his fingers, Jered strode away from the building, his teeth starting to set in the back of his jaw as he realized the need to smoke. If the brat hadn't taken so much time away from him, he would have been done, or on his second cigarette by now. A gentle sigh passed Jered's pale lips before he reached the edge of the pavement, lighter at the ready. "How's the job going?" Jered mumbled as he held his hands against his cigarette, shielding it from the non-existent wind (merely out of habit, of course) while he lit it. "Tiago seems to be picking up quite a few hours lately." Stuffing the lighter away, Jered turned to look at Chavez's small form.

A depressive brat? He didn't think himself a brat... But he supposed in the eyes of other people he could be. Jered didn't seem that happy at all with the two Brazilians living at the same apartment as him. He began to pause to apologize to the other gain, really not intending to make him mad. But as he felt his collar being grabbed and yanked he gave a squeak in surprise and took a few steps backward in the motion. His face turned a bright pink in embarrassment. "S-sorry! I'm coming," he said and shut the apartment door.
Hastily he followed after the albino down the stairs and away from the building. He really wished that he had a hoodie with him at the moment for comfort. Nuzzling down into the fabrics too big for himself was always just so calming. But he knew if he wanted to tag along with Jered he couldn't turn around and go grab one. He'd have to deal. As they reached the pavement he looked around the neighborhood a moment before down at the cracked cement beneath his feet. Instinctively he scooted closer to the larger male. He didn't attach himself to Jere'd side, still hesitant after the moment up at the apartment's front door. Slowly sighing he crouched down to the ground, wrapping an arm around his knees for balance as his other hand picked at the weeds in the breaks of the sidewalk.
At the question he gave a small shrug. "Okay I guess," he murmured. It was his first real job he'd had so it was a lot to take in. The boy, before running away, had been the baby of his family. He had been coddled and taken care of. Or at least back in Brazil he had. And while life here had been harder he'd still had someone there to pet him and tell him everything would be okay. Tiago. But now not even Tiago's comforting could protect the little teen from the mere difficulty of the real world. Work included.
"Yeah, Tiago's a lot better at it than I am," he mumbled almost a little sadly. "It's just kind of hard to get adjusted to. I've never really... worked a job like that before. I'm not used to people touching me like that." Or well, anyone but Tiago. He gave a slight pout as he dragged his fingertip over the cement, idly tracing invisible shapes into it. "But the money's good so..." He stuck with it. Where else could he work and make that kind of money?

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellspacing,0,true] | { | Taking a long drag on his cigarette, Jered could feel his natural relaxed self come back as he stood beside the cowering Brazilian. It took him a few minutes of doing his own thing before he decided to answer, and even then, he took his time mulling over an answer. "Money is good, though. It's different, when you can support yourself, instead of depending on others to feed you and clothe you." Jered reached up with a hand and pulled his hair back and to the left, careful not to knock off his glasses. He had never been one to give a pep talk -- or whatever someone could call this conversation -- but he also wasn't one to just sit there in the silence. "You'll get used to it, if you stick with it. It's something that comes with time..." His sentence rolled off his tongue, dropping suddenly. "Don't worry."
The albino turned his head down, pinching his cigarette between his forefinger and thumb. His red eyes softened as he watched the teenager crouched beside him, shiver slightly in the gentle wind. It tousled the brown locks messily styled on Chavez's head, getting in his eyes and flying this way and that. Returning the cigarette with a inaudible sigh, Jered jerked his arms out of the sleeves of his zippered hoodie, one at a time with his other hand unzipping the front. "Here, Chavez, don't freeze. Harley would never let me live it down," Offering the red hoodie, Jered took one last drag on his cigarette before dropping it onto the sidewalk. Stepping on it to prevent any issues, he tossed his head back. "Wanna go for a walk? Kill some time,"

Money is good. Money is important. He had never really understood just how important it was until he was living on his own. Food, rent, clothes, transportation, everything. Thankfully between both he and Tiago they made more than enough to survive with a little bit extra. He nodded silently in agreement to the albino's words. He didn't mind the smell of smoke that drifted by him. His father had smoked cigars a lot before he ran away and then a decent number of people smoked on the street outside of his work.
"Yeah, I suppose I will," he replied. It was strange to think that in time being groped, pinched, and oggled were things he would just 'get used to'. Back in school he'd been beaten up for looking so girly and for seeming gay. Now it was welcomed by perverts. He gave a soft 'hm' when told not to worry, continuing to drag his fingers over the cement as he rested his chin against his knees. As a particularly chilly breeze ran by he shivered, feeling the cold against his cocoa skin. He reached up to try to push bangs out of his face but the wind fought him.
When spoken to large brown eyes turned up to see Jered was offering him his hoodie. His red hoodie. Didn't he wear this like, all the time? He gave a meek smile before taking the jacket. "Thank you," he said softly and put it on, zipping it up. Immediately the fabric engulfed him, like a child in his father's clothes. He nuzzled his face down into it, nostrils filled with the scent of cigarette smoke and Jered. He gave a tiny smile. The smell wasn't bad at all. It had it's own sort of charm to it.
"Huh?" He'd been lost in thought, taking a moment to register the other man's question. Take a walk? Well... he didn't have much else to do right now. And taking a walk would tire him out more. Be great for when they get back to the apartment. He'd pass right out. Hopefully until Gogo was home. "Sure," he finally said and pushed up to his feet. The hoodie immediately became like a dress on the tiny teenager, nearly down to his knees and the sleeves just as long. He gave a small smile with pink tinted cheeks as he looked up at Jered, waiting for the albino to take the lead.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellspacing,0,true] | { | Jered gave a slight smile before pulling his pack of cigarettes from his pocket as he began to walk away from the housing complex. Tapping it with a kind of absent-minded attitude, Jered pinched the butt of one and pulled it out, swiftly lifting it up to his pale lips. He sniffed, rolling the cigarette to the corner of his mouth as he stuffed the pack away into the same pocket. He didn't have to turn to know that Chavez was following him -- he could hear the slight tapping of the small teenagers feet, his shoes clapping quietly against his heels. The albino kept the pace slow, knowing that he was capable of walking relatively fast with his long legs. Chavez was on the other side of the spectrum -- his legs were so short, he'd have to take three steps to keep up with one of Jered's regular strides.
Craning his neck to pull a sore muscle back into a more comfortable position, Jered cleared his throat. "You and Tiago pretty close then?" He murmured around the cigarette in the corner of his mouth. He didn't really need another smoke but he had decided that he might as well keep one handy in case of an awkward or threatening conversation. He didn't mind Chavez, but the small teenager definitely had a knack for picking out conversations that Jered was less than comfortable with discussing. He kept his red lighter stashed in his pocket. "Its hard not to notice ... y'know, your activities. Err..." Jered reached up and scratched at the back of his head, a slight blush flowering over his cheeks. He was aware but was modest of his knowledge of their antics.

Chacha found himself having to hustle to keep up with Jered, scurrying after the tall man quickly. Their height difference was just so dramatic it was crazy. With the sleeves of the hoodie flopping about he walked at the other man's side, looking around quietly at the city as they moved. When Jered cleared his throat he glanced up at the other man. Slowly he nodded at the question. "Yeah, we both have a lot in common so we're really close," he explained. They were both Brazilian, came from immigrant families with issues, were gay, were bullied, were tiny. It was like they were twins or soulmates really. And even though their personalities were almost polar opposites they got along wonderfully. He couldn't even recall the last time they fought about sometime.
At the mention of their 'activities' the small boy's face turned a bright pink. "Yeah ah... s-sorry," he mumbled bashfully. In embarrassment he nuzzled down more into the hoodie, walking silently next to Jered for some moments. He knew better than to do such things with Tiago out in the open but... it just sort of happened. And his mind was never on the bad taste of the location, but rather on the pleasure of just being with his best friend. He knew the same went for Gogo.
"You and Lee are best friends, right," he finally piped up, large eyed glancing up at the albino from among the red fabric. "How long have you known each other?"

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellspacing,0,true] | { | Jered gave a slight smirk when the tiny teenager next to him blushed and apologized. He wasn't looking for an apology, but it definitely was cute to harass his room mate. He knew that Chavez was the less wild one, the tame individual of the pair. Tiago was just the opposite, as anyone could tell. That being said, Chavez was Jered's preferred Brazilian. There was something about Tiago -- maybe his defiant personality or loud attitude -- that made Jered scowl every time the boy came about. Regardless of his opinion of the boys, though, Jered tolerated them. He had to for Harley.
Flushing a bit when Chavez mentioned Harley, remembering the antics they had once upon a time. They had put an end to that a few years ago, but it was still fresh in Jered's mind. "Ah..." Jered murmured, reaching up to scratch at the back of his head, rustling his white hair. "Yeah, we are.. We've been friends for a long time, I dunno how long," Jered looked up at the darkening sky, his red eyes contrasting against the black of the surroundings. "We've pretty much been friends since we met each other."

A small smile curled the corners of Chavez's lips as he saw Jered now become the awkward one. If at least a little bit. It was clear enough that he and Harley were old friend. But just how close he couldn't say for sure. At the very least best friends. As the other murmured his words and scratched at his head Chacha had a suspicion it was, or had been at some point, more than just that. He kept quiet on this thought, understanding when a line shouldn't be crossed. If he flustered Jered too much with questions then the walk would probably be cut short or finished in silence.
"Really? That's nice. Tiago and I have been friends for a few years," he explained as he shifted closer to the albino, letting someone pass by along the sidewalk. "We met because we were both being tormented by bullies. We were both in the boy's bathroom at school when they showed up. Gogo shoved me out the window and we hid in the bushes until they went away. I guess we've been sort of best friends since that day." His smile grew a little wider, but a tinge more sad, as he thought about that day. He was glad he had met Tiago but he didn't line to remember all the abuse he put up with in school. Running away had been their best idea yet. At least they were away from those bullies now.
Tilting his head back he looked up at Jered, brown locks brushing over his face. "If you don't mind me asking, how did you two meet?"

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellspacing,0,true] | { | Jered nodded gently as Chavez talked about the relationship he shared with Tiago. It was nice of him to drop the subject momentarily of him and Harley -- apparently he had made his awkwardness apparent to the small teenager. It was slight but it had been enough for the Brazilian to notice. Chavez had many more mature traits compared to his companion. It made the albino appreciate the youngster that much more.
Pursing his lips, Jered tilted his head at the question, toward the darkening sky. "I don't mind," he murmured, quietly as he watched single stars begin to appear. His red eyes were half closed as a wave of drowsiness washed over him. He took a deep breath of the cool evening air before he returned his glance to Chavez, opening his mouth to reply to his question. "We met in high school," Jered reached up to push his glasses back against the bridge of his nose before he continued. "It was... Freshman year? Yeah."
Shoving his hands in his jean pockets, Jered looked down at the ball of red fabric rolling beside him. His hoodie really was way too big for Chavez. "I heard Harley playing the piano in one of the empty rooms, so I went to go check it out. It was amazing." Jered knew that Chavez was aware of his fondness of music, something that he and Harley shared. "We've pretty much been best friends since that day. We started talking and it just... happened. Best friends." |
