ÉNNA KELLY
[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=valign,top] kelly TWENTY-NINE MALE BISEXUAL INFORMATION BROKER & ARMS DEALER | [atrb=style, width: 296px; padding: 5px; background-color: e3e3e3; border-top: 4px solid #966666;] GENERAL INFORMATION NAME, he's got a passport with énna murphy on it but instead uses énna kelly. BIRTH DATE, |
HEIGHT, five foot eleven.
WEIGHT, one hundred and sixty-three pounds.
APPEARANCE,the only thing he wears consistently is the most eye-catching part of his appearance and pretty much deserves to be handled first: the eyepatch. covering his right eye and he's just not outside without it, or at least a variation, to cover his eye with. the ridiculously dyed bright red long hair is half an attempt to take attention away from and half a terrible mistake he's had no will to break out of habit for. no; despite those freckles at thirty, he's not a natural redhead.
in terms of fashion? if he's not in a suit, he'll look kinda terrible. if he's not handling business, he's not dressing appropriately. so it'll be the shitty t-shirts with the faded logos for the day-in and jeans that probably needed a wash two wears back. maybe he'll wear a parker jacket if the weather's getting cold - which, knowing new york in any season that isn't summer, that'd be very, very likely. he can't deal with ones without the fur - do parker jackets even exist without that? he wouldn't want to know. the only place he doesn't skimp in terms of casual wear are footwear. he's gotta go with boots there; big, expensive, long-lasting boots. probably more money than the rest of what he's wearing all together.
when he's wearing suits, though, kelly goes all out. italian cut or english cut - not america, definitely - and anything fancy that'll go with it. ties, suspenders, he'll dress up for the completely illegal work he does. mind you, he wears the same suits to church, so he's sort of the mindset that there's no doubt he's going to hell.[/div]
PERSONALITY
christ, don't give kelly half an opportunity to go on about glasses being half-empty or anything. what's immediately apparent about the man through his business is that he's pessimistic. for him, it's not just a case of seeing the bad in circumstances; kelly only seems to consider the worst time in and time out.
a natural side-effect of a really jaded attitude to his work and the people in it. despite only being twenty-nine often kelly acts far more weary than that. in fact, he seems consistently exasperated and exhausted by the so-called ‘demands’ of his work as a dealer. never expect to be able to ask for a favour without him taking the moment to whinge about it or, more specifically, you. to him, there's that positioning he takes with his business partners who are overwhelmingly the less moral of the city: specifically, one distanced and totally unbothered with whatever his goods get to, a “let's get this over with, shall we?”.
but kelly isn't just lazy, he's aimless full stop and the man seems very little motivation for anything, even outside of work. although it's true he seems a lot more amicable, or at least a little playful, when he's not talking about money or guns - a change he'd like to think as unsurprising and an even greater one if he like you. he'll rarely be driven about much when given a chance. sure, there's that friendliness but he doesn't seem to change a pretty rotten attitude. to him, optimism is just misplaced sark.
so there's definitely no denying he's a negative person. yet despite this, he's a pretty sympathetic when it comes to other people's feelings, even empathetic thinker. he's very conscious of other people wants and feelings but he'd be hesitant to say he takes them into consideration - he does though, personal decisions are even more deliberated over. hell, he's even been dubbed 'maternal' before. it's a soft-hearted streak that's not really beneficial in his line of work even though he won't really deny it if he's called out on it.
however, he'd prefer the adjective self-aware or, at the very least, cautious. and he is. you see, kelly's not only conscious of other people but also of his surroundings. when doing something there isn't solely a plan b in spare in case something goes on and there's no doubt he's reliable. he'll go through a whole alphabet of options to assure his own safety. he reasons it's not exactly paranoia when you're dealing with “objectively terrible people” - his words and something he won't even budge on. hey, at least for someone without any aims he makes sure he gives himself options, even if they may be of the “how to keep alive” variety. pretty predictable of him to prepare for the worst of the worst.
despite trying to be careful he's actually pretty in a habit of totally running his mouth. a little too often he has to add “uh, didn't mean it like that” to what he says. and frankly, he feels a little out of his depth. kelly doesn't really know when he hasn't felt like that, though.

history
PARENTS, ian paul murphy, father, sixty-two
maeve oona kelly, mother, fifty-five
SIBLINGS, none.
born in limerick, ireland, kelly's memories of his time there are non-existent. his mum has vaguely filled in the blanks for what what she deemed all he really needed to know: a pretty destitute marriage dissolved from the get-go of its union up until around his fifth birthday. it was at this point his mother had packed up and left for her sister's - a sister's who was a bit of a trip away, given she was in new york. initially, just for a summer. they'd been advised a break was what they needed.
from then on kelly can certainly remember a lot more. at least, he can definitely think back on the expensive, passive aggressive, long-distance phone calls back home and a pretty shitty summer in an apartment with horrible relatives. and from then on, break turned to a school in ridiculously unfamiliar surroundings as his mother made the choice to spend a little longer than the few months they had planned in new york.
a few years later kelly's dad had completely ceased contacting them and, contrary to one overstayed visa, new york was considered home for the both of them. in the vaguest sense of home, anyway. kelly didn't particularly take to the city well as he grew older. it was hard to be ungrateful, though, especially when you were consciously aware of the effort one mother put into just paying the rent. two jobs from an aunt "knew through people who know people", a landlord who was the brother of a cousin's husband they got by. since if there was anything else to be aware of it was the amount of social networks there were.
yet despite a seemingly vast amount of connections family could only get you so far. at eighteen kelly had graduated high school but without legal documentation of any kind there was no hope for money of college. he'd never been an aspirational person and already in his last year he was working in a restaurant in irishtown and that was the routine for several years more.
it was a routine interrupted as kelly got into the darker side in new york. it's a story he'll skimp the details on himself. in his early twenties he definitely was involved in gangs pretty, well, intimately. his initial involvement ended along with the destruction of one irish-american gang and, alongside that, the loss of sight in his right eye. he's very shady about the exact details, but whatever happened put him out of commission for several months.
especially since afterwards kelly made an extended effort to drop out of all that aspects of that kinda life. there were attempts to go back to any work he could find. but a lack of dedication and a fairly worsening attitude alongside continuous slip-ups as he attempted to cope with impaired depth perception meant kelly wasn't particularly hireable - y'know, out of the people who even considered employing an illegal with an eyepatch. rather, the only thing he got familiar with was making use of the connections he had. he thinks it was just some kinda natural progression that he begun to use his contacts for other means - less progression and maybe something more downhill according to him - but soon kelly was in the business for exchanging information. something, out of everything else there was, he ended up being actually intuitive about.
initially, he just dealt in the exchange of information but he works in the illegal weapons trade. new york wouldn't have very efficient gangs if they weren't armed to the teeth, right?

OTHER INFORMATION
since the injury kelly's depth perception has been pretty badly effected - expected of someone with one eye, but he's never really got used to it. the man's still terrible at judging distances between objects. best not to have him throw anything to you, maliciously or not.
in terms of where kelly lives right now he's “in between” places as a pretty much official freeloader amongst his contacts and one ex-girlfriend. he just needs to organise the necessary funds and papers before he's able to secure some place for himself.
