"I've been fascinated by them by day one," The albino muttered. 'Fascination' had always been a hard word for him to describe, at least when relating to himself - it was just weird. He didn't feel all the emotions that everyone else felt, and he accepted that. Hell, he welcomed it. Who wanted to be burdened with all those emotions? They were just a nuisance. Nothing that Zane needed in his life. He was provided with the essentials - anger, confusion, and... some more. Zane's lips twisted into a slight scowl. Who ever had to list off their emotions like he did?
Lifting his arms to place his hands into his jacket pocket, Zane blew a bit of carbon dioxide into the air. "Most are probably settling down for the night. It's getting colder, indicating that the sun is setting... even above ground." Zane, disinterested, took a step in front of Bailey and crouched near the edge of the running water. His eyes seemed to glow as he watched for movement less fluid. "They are water snakes, but I can't assume that there is much for food in this water... maybe some minnows, tadpoles... the occasional goldfish that gets flushed down the toilet." Zane stood, brushing off his little joke as if it had never been uttered by his lips.

Day one of what? His birth? To Bailey, it was hard to imagine this guy as a baby or even a child. Like he'd always been a mysterious person created as an adult to lurk about the sewers. He wasn't at all that strange, though. It just seemed to suit him better than having once been a happy, reckless child. Yet 'fascination' was a word the blue-haired university student knew well. Bailey was the kind of person always mildly touched by these descriptive emotions, which he himself took and exasggerrated just so he could feel normal. He grinned for no real reason, only because it felt necessary.
If only Zane knew that about him, maybe they wouldn't feel these miles between them. Mismatched hues met the pair beside him that, in this darkness, burned like the red flames you see in fireworks though held reasonable attention through half-lidded disineterest. Bailey's lips pursed, following the line of sight into the water. He could only smirk at the comment of goldfish, taking a step back from the stream. "If you were a big snake, where would you hide?" The question flowed through, eyes peering beyond the albino in search of an impossible, invisible destination. "... We should go deeper into the sewer... I bet there's a lot of cool things deeper..."

It had been such a long time since Zane had been around a normally developing child, it fascinated him to an extent. His red eyes, burning like coal in the darkness as Bailey took a big step forward, his mixed-colored eyes looking this way and that in the dankness of the sewer. There was something appealing about such an innocent soul. A baby bird that had fallen out of its nest a bit too early...
"Deeper in the sewer," Zane said, without much thought. He stalked behind the blue-haired boy, his posture rigid within the dirty walls of the underground. His eyes watched carefully for any movement that might indicate the home of a serpent, but with no luck, he soon began to placate himself with watching Bailey's movement in front of him. There was a slight hop in his step, as if the kid had never been happier - even in such a dark place as this. Zane's red eyes narrowed as he watched the behavior of the male, his mind perplexed about the entire ordeal. |

If it weren't for the rush of water, maybe they'd be able to hear their wet footsteps echo through the tunnel as the pair descended deeper. Bailey didn't have much of an idea where he was going, so he was slightly confused why he was the one leading them. At some point he peered back over his shoulder, catching the smoldering eyes on him. A smile crept over his features. What was this guy doing down here, anyway? "So, you seem to really know these tunnels." He commented once arriving near an area where the water wasn't so loud.
He paused, hands sitting on his hips for no real expected reason. "Do you come down here a lot?"

This kid was really curious, it was nearly aggravating. But it'd be pointless to get ticked off now, it would appear that he was hiding something. Of course, he wasn't exactly making his identity known to Bailey, but he didn't exactly "hide" it either. Pursing his lips with a thoughtful expression, however vague, Zane responded. "Yeah, I guess you could say that. They're easy on the eyes after seeing such hustle and bustle in the big city up there." He pointed a thumb toward the ceiling of the tunnels, referring to New York as a whole, although he could be pretty sure they were underneath Manhattan right now. Zane didn't really enjoy asking questions, as he rarely cared, but he didn't enjoy the attention being on himself even more, so he paused for a moment before turned away, his red eyes focusing on something that wasn't there. "Why're you so curious about snakes anyway? You can basically find them anywhere." Zane spat, tilting his eyebrows in a "really, you're so dumb" manner. He had found that he had a natural knack at finding small serpents, so he had grown apart from others who could not do so.

Although this secretive person had this mysterious thing going for him, Bailey somehow felt something wasn't quite coming to light. He was hiding something, avoiding something in the way he answered and would respond to the questions the bluenette asked that would only make him all the more skeptical. He hummed softly, turning his head to look up in the direction of where the latter pointed.
"Don't like sunglasses, I guess?" He murmured audibly, looking back to the stranger. Zane. Bailey had already given him all the smiles he had to offer, to be very honest. They didn't seem to be doing much, anyway. The student felt like he was feeding off this person's energy.
A hollowness flashed behind the differential dilation of his pupils, as he didn't really appreciate the face or tone being given him. "A friend had told me she overheard some people saying there's snakes in the sewers big enough to eat the rats." Bailey replied, hoping the other would realize on his own that this had pretty much already been stated. He stooped near the water's edge, reluctantly letting his hues leave Zane to look into the stream wondering if perhaps he might see something swimming within it.
